Ethan Wate lived in a small town called Gatlin in South Carolina. He had never left his hometown and nothing or no one had ever come to make something interesting happen. Movie took too long to arrive and were most of the times censored and so where books. Ethan’s only dream was to leave the small town to study college. Since his mother died, his father had made his duty to stay hidden in his study so the one who took care of Ethan was Amma a woman who had been his and his father’s nana. 

During the first months of school Ethan started hearing a song everywhere and dreaming of a girl he had never met. When in the middle of the school year this girl enrolls to the same school he starts wanting to know why is he dreaming of her. The only thing he manages to get is her name, Lena Duchannes. When Ethan finds out Lena had been dreaming of him too, he also discovers that she descends from a line of witches who call themselves “casters” and she is one of them. The problem is that when a female caster turns sixteen she must face weather she will be drawn to become a dark caster or a light caster. With Lena only a few months away from turning sixteen she starts worrying she will become dark. 

Ethan and Lena start a relationship and soon discover that their ancestors, Ethan Carter Wate and Genevieve Duchannes, were meant to be together until Genevieve turned dark making Lena even more scared and worried. Both of them embark on a journey full of magic and history of both their families to try to stop Lena from going Dark.
